SMTP4 100 μL Air-Displacement Pipetting Pump
FOREACH SMTP4-100 μL is an air displacement pipetting pump with a nominal capacity of 100 μL, designed for integration into automated instruments. It uses disposable tips for sample aspiration, transfer and reagent addition in small-volume liquid handling stations within sample preparation equipment, automated analyzers and laboratory workstations.
SMTP4-100 μL works with the instrument’s positioning axes to aspirate and dispense liquids for sample transfer into reaction tubes, sample cups or microplates and for measured additions to reaction mixtures. It supports automatic tip ejection. Tip specifications and compatibility must be confirmed against container dimensions, aspiration positions and the tip-changing sequence.
The equipment integrator supplies drive and process control; liquid level and abnormal aspiration monitoring require a project-specific detection solution. Define minimum, routine and maximum working volumes, then validate performance with the intended liquids, tips and cycle times. The 0.05 μL/step drive resolution does not specify the minimum reliable pipetting volume or pipetting accuracy.
Typical Applications:
Small-volume sample transfer, Reaction setup, Reagent addition

Typical applications
SMTP4-100 μL is intended for equipment modules handling smaller working volumes with disposable tips. Nominal capacity helps identify candidate configurations; actual pipetting performance also depends on the liquid, tip and equipment motion.
Sample preparation: small-volume sample pipetting
Moving a specified volume from a sample tube to a reaction tube is sample pipetting; taking a portion for subsequent testing is also called aliquoting. Selection should focus on the target volume and use of the original sample, rather than motor step count.
For SMTP4-100 μL, assess tips and control parameters at the intended working volumes. The instrument must define aspiration depth, waiting time before movement and dispensing position. Automatic liquid-level detection or confirmation of abnormal aspiration requires a separate detection solution.
Reaction setup: small-volume reagent addition and droplet delivery
Adding small amounts of reagent to reaction tubes or wells is reagent addition or reaction setup. A drop remaining at the tip end, liquid on the outside of the tip or liquid adhering to the vessel wall can affect the volume actually delivered into the reaction mixture.
SMTP4-100 μL is a candidate configuration for smaller working volumes. Validate dispensing speed, dispensing height and the withdrawal motion together, and decide whether contact dispensing is appropriate for the liquid. Additional blow-out or mixing steps must be checked against the available stroke and control program.
OEM pipetting unit: tip handling and positioning-axis integration
In an automated workstation, the pipetting pump, positioning axes, tip rack and consumable positioning form a pipetting unit. Beyond aspiration and dispensing, the instrument must complete the sequence of tip loading, movement to the destination, dispensing and tip ejection.
SMTP4 supports automatic tip ejection, but tip-loading stroke, force and ejection position must match the instrument mechanics. After changing tip specifications, recheck airtightness and loading and ejection motions. Similar tip shapes do not establish compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions
100 μL is the nominal capacity of this configuration; 0.05 μL/step is its drive resolution. A drive increment is not a minimum reliable pipetting volume or a volume-error specification. Verify performance at minimum, routine and maximum working volumes with the intended tips, liquids and aspiration/dispense method.
