01Where paths and interlocks fit in the instrument

Manage feeding, sampling, washing and waste removal through port states, interlocks and maintenance bypasses. Define concurrent tasks and isolation after closure, and record medium and vessel states during anomalies.

Concurrent tasks must prevent wash liquid, waste or other formulations entering culture paths. Include fault states and maintenance bypasses on the same drawings.

02Product responsibilities in this operation

Valves control the current source or destination; the associated drive performs metering or transfer. Port connections, actual positioning and shared-segment renewal must match the operation.

For this bioprocess integration task, confirm task state, sample/vessel identity, concurrent resources, interlocks and recovery.

03Organize the sequence by actual architecture

  1. Include feeding, sampling, cleaning, waste removal and maintenance bypasses in the state table. Identify culture vessels, permitted concurrency and required isolation locations.
  2. Check rotary-valve source selection separately from tubing-pinch on-off control, coordinating drive permissions, interface state and current process stage.
  3. Check unintended connections, leakage and backflow in operating and fault states. Record cumulative material, sampling identity and unfinished actions.
  4. Before restart, check actual vessel and liquid states, then decide whether to resume or stop, preventing cleaning-liquid misrouting and duplicate feeding.

04Define operating conditions for this task

Conditions, results and abnormality records for this operation
To defineDetails
Actual operating conditionsTask state, sample or vessel identity, concurrent resources, interlocks and restart
Acceptance targetTest concurrent operation, limiting states and complete fault recovery; verify that identities, cumulative quantities and records match actual actions
Fault localizationResource conflicts, communication loss or mismatched identities can cause delivery to the wrong destination or repeated dosing.

06Validate operation results at the receiver

Cover concurrency, boundary states and complete recovery after faults. Check that identity, cumulative volume and records match actual operations.

Include extended operation, power loss, depleted feed, blockage and post-maintenance restart. Check cumulative delivery and contamination boundaries.

07Locate abnormalities and restore the next operation

Resource conflicts, communication interruptions or identity mismatches can cause misdelivery or duplicate dispensing.

Stop the affected branches and recover using execution records.

Evaluate fluidic feedback and biological process results separately. A component combination alone does not establish sterility or continuous-culture capability.

Valveless Metering Pump Selection Guide: FOREACH Models and Applications

To select a valveless metering pump, first define the volume per dose and the time available for dispensing. Then check displacement per revolution, drive speed, wetted materials, backpressure and connections, and verify delivery in the actual fluid path. Neither flow rate alone nor the label ‘metering pump’ is enough to select a model.

Discuss fluidic configurations for bioprocess integration

Provide a fluid diagram, the actual liquids and pressures in each state. Compare 10-, 16- and 24-port configurations against the port map, and assess high-pressure suitability separately. Compare suitable configurations against the validation objectives described here.
