Valveless Metering Pumps for Spectroscopy and Elemental Analysis

Application guide

Explore valveless metering-pump placement, coordination and configuration for suitable continuous auxiliary-liquid supply in spectroscopy and elemental analysis, with links to operating and validation tasks.

Applicable architecture

This guide covers liquid-sample elemental analysis and auxiliary fluidics. Solid, gas and other spectroscopic architectures require separate assessment of their introduction devices. Flow or capacity alone does not qualify these candidates as replacements for the original sample-introduction system.

01What do these products do in this instrument?

Valveless metering pumps: suitable continuous auxiliary liquid supply

Provide repeated or continuous metering in instrument-compatible auxiliary branches, accounting for actual introduction-end load. Confirm suitability for the matrix, pressure and signal recovery. Replacing the original introduction configuration requires complete-path validation.

Compare RPL-series options for repeated metering or auxiliary continuous supply according to the task. Confirm individual dose, flow over the operating time window and cumulative volume separately. For proportioning, also compare the liquid actually arriving from each of the two paths.

02Distinguish repeated dosing from continuous supply first

Compare valveless metering pumps for repeated dosing or auxiliary continuous supply in suitable configurations. Repeated dosing requires assessment of individual deliveries and liquid released after stopping; continuous tasks require time-window flow and cumulative volume. After converting the rotation program to a set volume, measure the actual received volume under the installed flow-path and load conditions.

03Handle starts/stops, replenishment and two-stream merging separately

Starting, stopping and bottle changes affect actual arrival. Record initial liquid delivery, recovery delay and terminal drips. For two-stream proportioning, check each path's load and arrival time before checking the composition and mixing after the junction. A matching cumulative ratio does not replace composition validation during startup and within each operating time window.

04Translate actual branch conditions into configuration requirements

06Confirm product roles in actual operation

Check concentration ratios, mixing, blank recovery and method results. Evaluate preparation and sample supply separately.

07Can the same configuration be retained after changing the target dose or time window?

Validate starts/stops, operating increments and receiver-end drips under the new actual load. Measure repeated dispensing dose by dose; for continuous supply, measure output within operating time windows and cumulatively. Then determine whether the existing configuration and program still meet requirements.

A sample-preparation pump is not automatically suitable for nebulizer supply. Confirm the introduction system for the specific instrument.

What Is a Valveless Metering Pump? Working Principle, Applications and Selection

A valveless metering pump is a positive-displacement pump that combines rotary and axial reciprocating piston motion to switch the fluid path, draw liquid in and discharge it. Its pumping mechanism does not rely on conventional inlet and outlet check valves. It can serve reagent dispensing, titration, filling and two-fluid proportional delivery, but metering performance still has to be verified with the actual fluid, pressure, tubing, drive and cleaning conditions.

Valveless Metering Pump Selection Guide: FOREACH Models and Applications

To select a valveless metering pump, first define the volume per dose and the time available for dispensing. Then check displacement per revolution, drive speed, wetted materials, backpressure and connections, and verify delivery in the actual fluid path. Neither flow rate alone nor the label ‘metering pump’ is enough to select a model.

What Is a Programmable Syringe Pump? Operation, Fluid Routing and Automation

A programmable syringe pump uses a motor to control syringe plunger displacement and speed, executing aspiration, dispensing, pauses and repeated actions through commands. With a routing valve, it can connect reagent reservoirs, reaction vessels and wash paths into an automated dispensing process. Instrument development therefore needs to define volume, fluid connections and timing together.
