Sample-gas and condensate handling: absorbent-liquid supply

Application guide

Absorbent-liquid supply is a specific liquid-handling operation in sample-gas and condensate handling. This page explains component roles, action sequence, actual operating conditions and recovery requirements. Establish the architecture before comparing configurations.

Applicable architecture

Check contact media and operating conditions separately for sample gas, condensate and absorbent liquid. Confirm gas-liquid diaphragm-pump pumping capability for the specific configuration. Liquid-supply, gas-aspiration and air-containing drainage parameters are not interchangeable.

01Where absorbent-liquid supply fits in the instrument

Limit the role to absorbent-liquid addition or circulation, and validate formulation, actual flow, backpressure and gas-liquid contact architecture. Assess gas sampling and analytical results at the relevant system level.

Validate absorbent-liquid addition or circulation with the actual formulation, flow and backpressure. Gas-liquid contact efficiency and final gas-analysis results require evaluation of the complete system.

02Product responsibilities in this operation

The pump supplies absorbent liquid to the gas-contact vessel at the required installed flow. Confirm formulation, receiving backpressure, cumulative volume and refill interruptions; gas-liquid waste aspiration is a separate duty.

Compare DPL30, DPL60 and DPL30H against the actual absorbent formulation and supply load. Tubing, valves and receiving-vessel pressure determine installed flow; measure delivery and recovery after refilling at the contact vessel.

For this sample-gas and condensate task, define actual liquid flow, cumulative volume, allowable interruptions, backpressure, refills and operating duration.

03Organize the sequence by actual architecture

  1. This task covers the liquid branch for absorbent addition or circulation. Confirm formulation, source vessel, contact unit and liquid destination.
  2. Arrange liquid supply within the pump's permitted media and actual backpressure. Measure flow, circulation or replenishment at the point of use.
  3. Assess absorbent-liquid supply separately from sample-gas aspiration. Check startup, shutdown, liquid changes and recovery after maintenance. Validate gas-liquid contact and final analytical results with the complete method.

04Define operating conditions for this task

Actual operating conditionsActual flow, cumulative volume, allowable interruptions, backpressure, refills and operating duration
Acceptance targetMeasure operating-flow trends and cumulative volume, including refill interruptions. Evaluate proportioning, process or analytical results according to the task.
Fault localizationAn empty source, bubbles, slip, pressure changes or resetting can disturb continuous output.

05Compare product configurations by the roles on this page

DPL60 liquid diaphragm pumpLiquid supply or auxiliary circulationJudge by peak demand and installed operating point, not free flow alone

  • DPL60 liquid diaphragm pump
  • DPL30H high-backpressure liquid diaphragm pump

06Validate operation results at the receiver

Measure working-flow trends and cumulative volume, including replenishment interruptions. Evaluate ratio, process or detection results according to the intended use.

Verify supply recovery, liquid level or operating state at the gas-contact unit and the analytical response after source replacement or maintenance. For a recirculating arrangement, confirm restored circulation; for replenishment, confirm the actual addition and resulting inventory.

07Locate abnormalities and restore the next operation

An empty source, bubbles, slip, pressure changes or resets can disturb sustained output.

Restore the source, liquid column and installed flow, then check the contact unit and method response before accepting new data. In a replenishment branch, reconcile any measured or unknown addition with the receiver inventory. In a recirculating branch, verify circulation and liquid condition rather than treating circulating volume as fresh absorbent added.

Liquid flow, unloaded gas flow and gas-liquid drainage capability are not interchangeable. An absorbent-liquid pump is not necessarily suitable as a sample-gas pump.

How to Read a Diaphragm Pump Flow-Pressure Curve—and Predict Installed Flow

A catalogue value such as 300 or 600 mL/min is not a fixed flow rate inside an instrument. The useful engineering question is: at the actual inlet pressure, outlet backpressure, fluid, tubing and supply voltage, where will the pump and the fluidic circuit settle?

Selecting a Self-Priming Miniature Liquid Diaphragm Pump: Lift, Priming Time and Dry or Wet Starts

Select a self-priming miniature liquid diaphragm pump by checking suction lift, time to first liquid, dry and wet starting conditions, and stable delivery. Use DPL30, DPL60 and DPL30H specifications to define an instrument-level test.

What to Do When a Laboratory Waste Aspiration Pump Loses Suction: Troubleshooting Leaks, Filter Blockage, and Liquid Carryover

A laboratory waste aspiration pump is normally installed downstream of the collection bottle, overflow protection, and hydrophobic filter. It creates vacuum by removing gas from the bottle. When suction declines, first distinguish a change in the pump itself from a leak, blocked filter, activated overflow protection, clogged tip, or liquid carryover.

Discuss fluidic configurations for gas pretreatment

Provide a fluid-path diagram, actual liquids and pressures in each state. Select for installed resistance, actual wash or working liquid and the task window. Assess peak demand and installed operating points, not free flow alone.
