01What do these products do in this instrument?

Check valves: restrict backflow in feed branches

Limit flow direction where backflow protection is required, accounting for culture-side backpressure and the pump operating point. Check opening load, reverse leakage and added resistance together.

Check valves limit reverse flow in the permitted direction. Assess opening conditions, reverse leakage and added resistance together with the pump operating point. Check siphoning and the complete path's contamination-control boundary separately.

Tubing and Fittings: Extended-Run Feed Paths and Loads

Connect feed vessels, metering drives and culture interfaces, confirming materials for formulation and prolonged contact. Evaluate tubing and protective-component resistance alongside bottle-change priming and arrival delay.

Tubing and fittings together form sealed connections and the actual transfer path. Check formulation, inner/outer diameters, length, tube-end positioning and port geometry, including added volume in residue and arrival delay.

02Design tubing and fittings as a complete wetted path

Tubing, fittings and ports jointly determine sealing, transfer volume and medium-contact coverage. Materials and dimensions must suit formulation, operating conditions and installation. Include tubing length and interface volume in priming, shared residue and arrival delay. After connection changes, recheck delivery and cleaning through the actual path.

03Validate check-valve opening load and closed-state sealing separately

Position check valves for the permitted flow direction and include opening differential pressure and added resistance in the actual supply load. Measure normal delivery, reverse leakage after stopping and recovery after maintenance separately. Assess siphoning and the complete path's contamination-control boundary independently.

06Explore specific operating and validation tasks

Flow-path protection

Check-valve opening pressure, filter pressure drop and backpressure affect the pump operating point. Backflow prevention and sterile isolation require separate validation.

07Confirm product roles in actual operation

Operating-point validation and fault localization
OperationMeasurements and observationsPriority checks
Flow-path protectionMeasure opening load, normal flow, reverse leakage and recovery after replacement; validate sterile boundaries separately.Excessive opening pressure, reverse leakage or filter blockage can disturb feeding.

Record output across the run, replenishment interruptions, first flow after bottle changes and reactor volume balance.

08Does a fitting that tightens prove the tubing assembly is suitable?

Also confirm port geometry, tube-end positioning and seal fit. Check leakage, hold-up and performance after repeated maintenance under actual conditions; thread engagement alone is insufficient.

Refilling or resetting a single syringe can interrupt supply. Continuous-operation capability and aseptic isolation both require system validation.

What is flow resistance calculation for? Using the Foreach calculator in fluid-path design and selection

The free flow rate of the pump meets the requirements. After installing the pipelines, valves and joints, the liquid supply at the end is insufficient. Flow resistance calculations can break the problem down into comparable data: what pressure differential is required at the target flow rate, where does the pressure loss mainly occur, and what happens if the pipe diameter, pipe length, component Cv or medium viscosity is changed. This article combines the actual function of the Foreach flow resistance calculator with a recalculable fluid circuit case to explain how to use the calculation results for design, selection, troubleshooting and prototype verification.

Why Does Actual Flow Change So Much When the Tubing Size Changes on the Same Miniature Diaphragm Pump?

Even when the pump is unchanged, installed flow can change because of tubing inner diameter, length, bends, and the minimum bore of fittings. When flow falls after a tubing change, the effective response is neither to blame the pump first nor to enlarge every tube indiscriminately. Measure inlet pressure, outlet pressure, and accumulated flow together to determine where the added restriction actually occurs.

Valveless Metering Pump Selection Guide: FOREACH Models and Applications

To select a valveless metering pump, first define the volume per dose and the time available for dispensing. Then check displacement per revolution, drive speed, wetted materials, backpressure and connections, and verify delivery in the actual fluid path. Neither flow rate alone nor the label ‘metering pump’ is enough to select a model.

Discuss fluidic configurations for continuous feeding

Provide a fluid diagram, the actual liquids and pressures in each state. Cards show representative configurations: confirm actual opening conditions, reverse leakage and medium separately; select tubing material and dimensions jointly for ID, length, load and actual formulation; and check tubing OD, threads, sealing structure and port-bottom geometry. Compare suitable configurations against the validation objectives described here.
