Reagent dispensing: repeated dispensing

Application guide

Repeated dispensing is a specific liquid-handling operation in reagent dispensing. This page explains component roles, action sequence, actual operating conditions and recovery requirements. Establish the architecture before comparing configurations.

01Where repeated dispensing fits in the instrument

Compare finite-stroke metering and suitable RPL/DRPL configurations by dose, total cycle volume and refill interval. Evaluate first and last doses, restart after stopping and output at actual backpressure separately.

Compare cycle volume with usable capacity to calculate refill frequency and lost time. Evaluate valveless candidates by displacement per revolution, speed and actual output after starts and stops.

02Product responsibilities in this operation

The valveless metering drive delivers liquid under the actual start-stop or continuous program. Nozzle geometry, backpressure and source conditions jointly affect what reaches the destination.

For repeated reagent dispensing, confirm dose, count, first and last doses, retained volume and recovery after replenishment.

03Organize the sequence by actual architecture

  1. Define dose volume, batch count, receiving vessels and permissible pauses for the actual reagent. When comparing finite-stroke replenishment with repeated valveless metering, record each option's capacity or output conditions separately.
  2. For the valveless configuration, establish output from actual displacement, speed and start/stop programs. Prime from source to dispensing nozzle, and check actual backpressure and outlet condition.
  3. Deliver each dose to its designated vessel. Compare startup, middle and final doses while checking post-stop droplets and vessel-change timing.
  4. After bottle changes, standby or low-liquid faults, restore a properly filled path and verify the first dose. Record confirmed delivery to affected vessels so repeated commands do not cause duplicate dispensing.

06Validate operation results at the receiver

Use actual media to check first, middle and last doses and delivery after bottle changes; confirm received volume and timing, not commanded steps as a proxy for volume.

Include first, middle and last batch doses, recovery after bottle changes, and extended operation with the actual medium.

07Locate abnormalities and restore the next operation

Empty sources, bubbles, nozzle droplets and backpressure changes may affect first or last doses.

Stop affected steps, validate recovery after priming and avoid duplicate dispensing.

Repeated dosing and continuous supply are different modes. Valveless metering also requires validation with the actual medium and operating conditions.

What Is a Valveless Metering Pump? Working Principle, Applications and Selection

A valveless metering pump is a positive-displacement pump that combines rotary and axial reciprocating piston motion to switch the fluid path, draw liquid in and discharge it. Its pumping mechanism does not rely on conventional inlet and outlet check valves. It can serve reagent dispensing, titration, filling and two-fluid proportional delivery, but metering performance still has to be verified with the actual fluid, pressure, tubing, drive and cleaning conditions.

Valveless Metering Pump Selection Guide: FOREACH Models and Applications

To select a valveless metering pump, first define the volume per dose and the time available for dispensing. Then check displacement per revolution, drive speed, wetted materials, backpressure and connections, and verify delivery in the actual fluid path. Neither flow rate alone nor the label ‘metering pump’ is enough to select a model.

What Is a Programmable Syringe Pump? Operation, Fluid Routing and Automation

A programmable syringe pump uses a motor to control syringe plunger displacement and speed, executing aspiration, dispensing, pauses and repeated actions through commands. With a routing valve, it can connect reagent reservoirs, reaction vessels and wash paths into an automated dispensing process. Instrument development therefore needs to define volume, fluid connections and timing together.

Discuss a reagent dispensing fluidic configuration

Provide a fluidic diagram, actual liquids and pressures in each operating state. Compare displacement, speed, actual backpressure and start-stop behavior; verify dual-stream ratios separately. Assess suitable configurations against this guide's validation objectives.
