Auxiliary liquid circulation: flow, temperature and pulsation tolerance

Application guide

Auxiliary circulation may support temperature control or other instrument functions and must maintain the required state in the actual loop. Its acceptance criteria differ from sample metering and wash supply. Establish whether the loop contacts samples.

01Locate the source, drive and receiving position for this task

Circulation reservoir→Circulation pump→Load or heat-exchange path→Return inlet
Functional or operational sequence; confirm connections and branches for each state on the instrument

Define actual flow, cumulative volume, allowable flow interruptions, backpressure, refills and operating duration. Follow the diagram to confirm liquid contact, pressure and destination before assigning drive and connection roles.

02Specify circulation load together with target temperature

Specify circulation conditions required by the thermal load or method, including temperature, resistance, flow and permissible pulsation. Rated pump flow does not directly establish temperature-control performance; assess heat exchange and loop volume together.

03Compare product options against task requirements

The following candidate options match this page's responsibilities. Compare them against the operating conditions described, then check capacity, materials and interfaces on the product pages. Card images show representative configurations; suitability must still be confirmed at actual operating points and by application results.

04Fill and vent before extended operation

Confirm loop filling and air removal before starting. Monitor the source, temperature and abnormal pressure. Reprime after shutdown or maintenance, and confirm dry-running tolerance for the specific model.

Action records should link commands, valve or interface states and actual received results. When raw material, container or sample identity changes, reconfirm shared paths and conditions permitting the next step. Completion of drive movement alone does not replace task acceptance.

05Assess flow and recovery at actual operating temperature

Measure installed flow, long-duration operation and recovery to the target state at actual temperature and load. For temperature anomalies, check heat exchange, air, resistance and supply together rather than only increasing speed.

Link operating-point tests to interpretable results
Validation scenarioMeasurement or observationInterpretation and action
Actual temperatureCompare flow and condition at operating temperatureRecheck operating conditions after temperature changes
Restart processInclude filling, air removal and restart after standbyDistinguish pump restart from reaching the system's target condition

Record test medium, configuration, installed path and operating sequence; present routine operating points and boundary results separately. Calculations support design discussions, component documentation checks models, and installed measurements confirm the actual task.

06After an abnormality or maintenance, first identify which segment needs recovery

An empty source, bubbles, slip, pressure changes or resets can disturb sustained output. Reconcile undelivered volume and process state before restarting to avoid duplicate additions.

Retain current source, container identity, completed actions, valve or interface state and actual receiving information. Use the table to locate the stage that changed before deciding to retry, continue or restart. After recovery, recheck the relevant operating point before returning an uncertain action to the automatic cycle.

  • Bring the fluidic diagram and operating-point records to discuss configuration

07Continue with tasks on the same branch

  • Diaphragm pumps: select separately for washing, replenishment, circulation and waste removal
  • Wash-Liquid Supply and Priming: Calculating Installed Flow from Wash Volume
  • Working-liquid replenishment: reservoir demand, level hysteresis and recovery

How to Read a Diaphragm Pump Flow-Pressure Curve—and Predict Installed Flow

A catalogue value such as 300 or 600 mL/min is not a fixed flow rate inside an instrument. The useful engineering question is: at the actual inlet pressure, outlet backpressure, fluid, tubing and supply voltage, where will the pump and the fluidic circuit settle?

How Long Can a Miniature Diaphragm Pump Run Continuously? A Duty-Cycle and Life Guide

A pump described as suitable for continuous operation is not a pump with unlimited life. Continuous-duty capability, accumulated service life, calendar life and statistical reliability answer different engineering questions—and all depend on the stated load, fluid, electrical drive and environment.

Discuss your auxiliary-liquid circulation path

Provide a fluid diagram, the actual liquids and pressures in each state. Specify the liquid, temperature and purpose of circulation; tubing, heat-exchange components and inlet condition; and run duration, pulsation tolerance and return location. Compare suitable configurations against the validation objectives described here.
